Everything you need to know about the France 2030 plan
What is “France 2030”?
Since 2021, the France 2030 investment plan, implemented by the Government, supports innovative actors throughout France. Its aim is to accelerate the transformation of key sectors of the economy through innovation and position France as a leader in the world of tomorrow.
France 2030 represents an investment of 54 billion euros to enable companies, schools, universities, and research organizations to successfully undergo their transitions. The goal is to allow them to competitively address ecological challenges and attractivity in the world to come while fostering the emergence of future champions in excellence sectors.
France 2030 is defined by two overarching objectives, dedicating 50% of these expenditures to decarbonizing the economy and 50% to emerging actors driving innovation without environmentally detrimental spending.
Two-Year Review and Future Ambitions
France 2030 has supported over 5,000 projects. In two years, 18.5 billion euros have been committed out of the 54 billion euros planned for the entire plan. In the Grand Est region, 303 projects have been supported, with over 587 million euros committed by the State. The regionalized component, co-financed by the Regional Council, has supported a total of 63 projects. For 2024, the ambition remains unchanged: the France 2030 plan must continue to enable companies to develop disruptive innovations, allowing France to position itself as a leader in future technologies and knowledge while further decarbonizing its economy.
Here are the major technological challenges and objectives supported by the Government:
- Simplification of norms for businesses to reduce the duration of administrative procedures that hinder the economic attractiveness of the region.
- Support for research in developing nuclear fusion, superconducting magnets, and carbon capture. A bill on norm simplification will be proposed in 2024.
- Exploration missions of the region’s natural reserves to exploit “green” hydrogen.
- Support for innovation in space, especially in developing a “cargo” spacecraft for transporting cargo to space stations.
- Research in favor of components and system architectures for massive data processing in artificial intelligence that needs to be intensified to reduce their energy consumption by at least a factor of 100.
